Easter Competition

Well we have had a twitter competition, so I reckon it’s time for a blog competition!

Pride of place we have here is a brand new North Face Doormat to make you the envy of all your neighbours or to take with you as the ultimate stylish accessory for your tent when welcoming you home after a hard day on the hill. We’ve combined this with a Victorinox Pen knife, Frisbee, Sit Mat and a base layer of your choice to the value of £30 from the site to help your Easter start with a bunny like spring.

What do you have to do to win this selection of goodies? Well all you have to do is to detail your favourite camp food recipe in the comments below. This could be anything from your favourite one pan dish to a rehydrated cordon bleu goodness idea. The winner will be the person who tickle our taste buds the most.

Now where’s my apron……..

    Bananas about Chocolate

    You only need
    banana
    lemon juice
    chocolate

Peel bananas and squirt a little lemon juice on them, stopping them going brown. Stuff the chocolate filling into them, like a hot dog. Wrap the banana in aluminium foil and cook for 5 mins.

You can do the same with lots of other things :)

My favourite camping meal, which takes me straight back to being 11 years old and on a father and son camp is Foil Packs
Take a large piece of foil fold it in half to double the thickness, chop up some of your favourite veg and lay in the middle of the foil, add a couple of sausages or a hamburger, salt and pepper to taste and some butter. Fold the foil up to encase the contents and place on the hot coals of an open fire, cook for about 15 minutes, turning once.
    Open and eat.

OK, this is hardly a recipe but my all-time favourite is a bacon and egg butty and a brew! There's something sooo good about the smell of bacon cooking from your tent in the morning. Space is always made for a couple of eggs, a pack of bacon, and some pre-buttered buns, so, together with the obligatory tea bags that I never leave home without, it is my ultimate camping meal:-) Mmmm, I can just smell it now!

It's not even 10:30 in the morning and I have had to eat my lunch already as a result of reading those! Closing date is this Thursday for those still wanting to enter.

A favourite of mine when camping is beef steaks coated in finely chopped garlic and worcestershire sauce cooked in a shallow pan. In a skillet, sauté a couple of red onions and add a bit of sugar. When the beef is cooked cover with the red onions and eat. Really nice and easy and served best with a Guniness. :)
For dessert, a few bananas coated in sugar and wrapped in foil and cooked for 30 minutes always goes down a treat, even more so if you can add a dollop of double cream to it.

I love the simple things in life and there's nothing easier when camping than the traditional English breakfast. Eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes and fried bread all taste so much better when cooked outside and the smell of the bacon is just sooo mouthwatering. It's just so great to wake up to.

Pitta pizzas are quick and easy and a hit with the kids. They're lower fat that proper pizzas too so not too unhealthy! Split the pittas open, spread the inside with tomato puree, a few slices of cheese and anything else you've brought along, pepperoni or salami is good. Wrap them up in tin foil and heat them on the campfire for about 5 minutes, turning once.

Darn it if this hasn't been a tough one. Thanks to all of you who entered the competition, not only has it made me hungry but it's also started getting me salivating for some camping action!

Simply because it's been a tough one to decide on, everybody has been declared a winner and will get a small pressie. I'll ping you all shortly with a mail and ask you to give me your addresses. However, we did have to decide on an overall winner and this time we went for Carla for her simple Beef, Onion and Worcestershire sauce recipe.

Congrats to all – please check your mails and let me know your addresses.

Our fav in the office has to be the cheats risotto which is Onions, garlic and risotto rice. Fry the onions, garlic together for 10 mins on a low heat. Add 125g per person of Arborio risoto rice and fry for another minute. Here comes the cheat bit, add a carton of wild mushroom soup from the covent garden soup company and add water as needed on a low heat. 25 mins later, la voila, cheats Risotto!

Thank you, can't believe i have won and now have a huge smile on my face ! :)
I like the cheats risotto and as it happens i have some wild mushroom soup. I may have to give that a go this weekend. I have loved seeing everyone's recipes and will have to try some when i go off camping in the summer.
